On July 24, 2025, the European Commission adopted a draft amendment to the POPs Regulation, tightening the limits for PBDEs (Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers). The official revised regulation is expected to be published soon.
Key Changes:

- Stricter PBDE Limits:
Previous: ≤10mg/kg (individual) + ≤500mg/kg (total) → New: ≤10mg/kg for both individual and total PBDEs
- Stricter PBDE Limits:
Exemptions:

- RoHS-regulated products are exempt from POPs PBDE limits.
- Recycled materials:
- Effective date – Dec 29, 2025: 500mg/kg
- Dec 30, 2025 – Dec 29, 2027: 350mg/kg
- From Dec 30, 2027: 200mg/kg
- Toys & children’s products (under Directive 2009/48/EC):
- Effective date – Dec 29, 2025: 500mg/kg
- Dec 30, 2025 – 18 months after effective date: 350mg/kg
- After 18 months: 10mg/kg
