New EPA Regulation on DecaBDE & PIP (3:1) – Is Your Business Compliant?

On November 19, 2024, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) officially announced a new regulation in the Federal Register (89 FR 91486), focusing on two persistent, bioaccumulative, and toxic (PBT) chemicals: DecaBDE and PIP (3:1). This is part of the ongoing effort to tighten the management of hazardous substances, ensuring the protection of human health and the environment.
? TSCA – The Toxic Substances Control Act, enacted in 1976, serves as a key legal framework for regulating the production, importation, use, and disposal of chemicals in the U.S. Since 2021, the EPA has intensified oversight on five major PBT chemicals:
✅ 2,4,6-TTBP
✅ HCBD
✅ DecaBDE
✅ PIP (3:1)
✅ PCTP
? CTIC provides TSCA compliance testing services – assisting businesses in evaluating and ensuring their products meet current regulations, minimizing legal risks, and protecting brand reputation.
